Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi is a public technical university located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. It was founded in the year 1919 as the Banaras Engineering College. In the year 1968, it became the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University 1968. In the year 2012, the institute was designated as the Indian Institute of Technology. Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi has 16 departments, 3 interdisciplinary schools, and 1 Humanities and Social Sciences Section.

The IIT Varanasi has a monthly e-magazine known as IIT (BHU) Chronicle that is published by the IITBHU Global Alumni Association. The magazine was first published in May 2005. The magazine contains all the events that were held at the institute along with all the notable achievements of members of the alumni community.

Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi even has international collaborations with the Institute of Laue Langevin, Grenoble, France, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Didcot, UK, University of Sydney, University of Mainz, Germany along with University de Girona, Spain.

Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi is well known for its experienced and well-educated faculty members. The institute has more than 350 faculty members of which the majority of them hold Ph.D. degrees in their respective fields.
